Teach a person how to fish

We’ve all heard the wise saying: “Give a person a fish and they eat for a day. Teach a person how to fish and they eat for a lifetime.”

This is about hand-outs and hand-ups. Too often we approach life as either/or, but the great organizations in history approach their work as both/and.

My point?

There is a need for some hand-outs when working with the homeless. They need to eat for a day. They need water. They need clothing for today. They need a place to sleep for tonight. They need a place to take a shower and clean up. They need Hope they can survive one more day. Rogue Retreat does this.

BUT…as we work with the homeless they need the hand-up too. They need to have case management help getting their lives in order so they can get a job, have a place to live, get the schooling they want, fix the wreckage of their past, restore relationships, establish a plan to escape the bondage of homelessness so they no longer need a hand-out. They need Hope for a lifetime. Rogue Retreat loves to do this!

When our participants have learned how to “fish” we all win. They can take on life without hand-outs and be self-sufficient.

Your support makes this all possible!

Thanks.
